6 Ways to Enjoy Your Home This Winter

The temperature may be cooling down, but that doesn’t mean the fun at home has to. Take a look at our six simple ways to enjoy your home, and family this winter.

Winter naturally makes us want to stay at home where it’s nice and cosy, providing ample opportunities to really love our homes and our families in them. Whether you have a hobby you want to upskill in, a place in your home you’ve been waiting to redecorate, or some new activities you’d like to try your hand at, those wintery days and nights are your perfect chance. Here’s six simple ways to make the most of your time indoors with your family this winter.

Light your fireplace

Is there anything more warming and beautiful in a winter home than a lit fireplace? We don’t think so. Get some good quality firewood, and great film, and settle in for a warm and cosy night in front of the fire. But, remember to service your fireplace and chimney before the first burn to ensure it’s safe and minimise air pollution.

Change your decor

It’s easy to warm up the look and feel of your home with some refreshed winter decor. Go for chunky blankets and lush pillows in all various textures and colours that complement your living room furniture. In the bedroom, layer it up by adding a thick quilt or a throw to your bed, and make sure you have something warm to step on to when you wake up by adding a rug to the floor. These simple texture changes and additions make a big difference to how snug you feel, and can be easily stored away when the winter weather passes.

Cook

Get those winter warmer meals cooking. Comfort food is one of the biggest reasons we love winter. Try hearty soups, stews, casseroles, and pasta dishes. If you’re a novice in the kitchen, rainy days make the perfect opportunities to try cooking something new, or test yourself with a new kitchen skill.

Go outside

Just because it’s winter, it doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of your outdoor living areas. Entertaining on cool evenings can be lots of fun. Layer up with blankets and cushions, serve up some delicious snacks, and settle in with your friends in front of your outdoors heating solution. We love fire pits; centre one in your seating area to create the most functional, cosy outdoor addition.

Spend time together

It’s easy to rug up on the couch with a good tv show or movie in winter, but cold outdoor weather can be big opportunity to spend some quality family time together inside. Stock up on board games, puzzles, and crafts, turn off the screens and start playing.

Clean up

Forget spring cleaning. Who else enjoys clearing out the cupboards and making room for new things? We know we’re not alone here. Declutter your home from your summer gear so you can settle in for the warmest, more organised winter yet. While you’re in the cleaning spirit, go through your winter coats, blankets, and other items and see what you have that you can donate to those in need.

There are so many things you can do with your loved ones at home; the fun doesn’t need to stop when winter arrives. Rug up, get cosy, and enjoy!
