Here in the western suburbs we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to relaxing by the ocean on Perth’s most iconic, and beautiful beaches. Take a look at our favourite 5 to visit this summer.
It’s no secret that Western Australia is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and pristine beaches. Here at Abode, we’re lucky enough to be based nice and close to a number of Perth’s best. The western suburbs is surrounded by long stretches of white sand, stunning coastlines, and some of the most perfect spots for relaxing. For us, there’s five stand-outs when it comes to western suburbs beaches, so let’s kick off the thongs, dive in and see what makes them so special.
Cottesloe Beach
Cottesloe is our home, and we absolutely love it, so of course, Cottesloe Beach makes our list. Not only is it arguably Perth’s most famous beach destination for tourists who visit from around the world, it’s also quintessential to the western suburbs lifestyle and synonymous with tanning, surfing and relaxing in style. With its clean white sand, sparkling blue water, and grassy terraces its popularity is definitely warranted. Plus, it’s surrounded by so many cafes, restaurants and bars, all with incredible ocean and sunset views.
City Beach
City Beach is a great spot for surfing, relaxing, and having casual gatherings around a barbecue with friends. Like most of WA’s beaches, this one also features beautiful white sand and crystal clear blue water. Recently, City Beach has opened some of Perth’s most stylish, beach-side dining options which are a welcome addition to this coastal zone. It’s also home to the City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club, a state-of-the-art facility that attracts attention for all the right reasons.
Floreat Beach
Right next to City Beach, Floreat has plenty of grassy areas for picnics, cafes for refreshment and refuelling, great spots for fishing, and of course soft sands and blue waters. Floreat Beach caters to all, but the water can be a little more choppy at times so take care if you’re taking young ones along.
Port Beach
If you’re after the perfect swimming spot that’s a little more relaxed and family-friendly, Port Beach is the place to be. The water is clear and gentle, there aren’t any rocks and reefs to worry about, and the kite surfers are always putting on a colourful and action-packed display in the sea breezes. If you’re interested in a beautiful beach walk, head North from Port Beach and it soon becomes Leighton Beach.
Leighton Beach
Leighton Beach is one of Fremantle’s greatest attractions. The pristine water of the Indian Ocean and the clean white sand make it a great spot for swimming, snorkeling, kite and wind surfing, and relaxing. Being so close to the North Fremantle train station, it’s easily accessible, and you’ll find plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby, from takeaways, to wine bars, pub-style food, gourmet pizzas, and more.
There are plenty more beaches where they came from, plus awesome riverside options too, but if you’re after the iconic western suburbs beach atmosphere, our top 5 will put you right in the heart of it. Summer’s ready, so get on out there and make the most of our amazing weather and beaches.
