Spotlight on: Subiaco

Subiaco is a fantastic little residential, commercial, and entertainment hub just outside of Perth’s City Centre, and it’s one of our much-loved western suburbs. Let’s take a closer look at this urban village gem.

Just a few kilometres from Perth City, Subiaco is one of our favourite inner western-suburbs hot spots. It’s one of the oldest suburbs in Perth and that heritage has shaped its culture, architecture and entertainment areas. Not only is it a trendy precinct for urbanites, it’s home to approximately 8,000 happy residents, and here at Abode we’re lucky enough to help people join them and make this delightful suburb their home.

Let’s explore what Subiaco has to offer.

Entertainment

The Regal Theatre is a much-loved Subiaco icon. It has hosted many A-list entertainers over its time and it’s now one of the most successful performing arts venues in Perth. There’s always something to see, whether it’s theatre, comedy, or live music, there’s something for everyone. As well as it’s entertainment value, the building of The Regal exemplifies the art deco architecture of WA’s history which can’t be found in many other places. Once all completed, the Subi XO development will also add to what’s on offer in the suburb with a cinema, hotel, food court and retail stores all in the one convenient precinct.

Food and Drinks

Now for the really delicious part, food and drinks. Subiaco is packed with enticing cafes, restaurants and bars to suit everyone’s taste. There’s plenty of classic favourites like the delightfully French Bistro des Artistes, Meeka serving some of the best Middle Eastern food in Perth, Six Senses with delectable Thai, and Funtastico, because who doesn’t love pizza and pasta? There’s also loads of new restaurants and cafes that have popped up more recently that would delight foodies everywhere. Baguette Me Not can satisfy your banh mi cravings, Lulu La Delizia serves up amazing pasta dishes with an impressive wine list, and The Cat Cafe is the perfect spot to catch up with other feline-loving friends (or just the felines themselves).

Health and Fitness

With all that delicious food, it’s no wonder there are so many fitness clubs around the suburb. Not only is there a host of gyms, yoga and pilates studios, and wellness centres, Lords Recreation Centre has something for everyone all in the one stop.

Location

As we mentioned, Subi is so close to the city centre, just four kilometres to be exact. It’s the perfect location, close enough to easily get in and out of the city, without living right in the hustle and bustle of it all. If it’s public transport you need, Subiaco Train Station can get you into the city in 5 minutes.

Life in Subiaco is perfect for people who want to live close enough to the city centre to feel a part of it, but far away enough from it to feel a little more suburban and still reap the benefits of city living. For a touch of heritage, mixed with modern culture Subiaco could be the suburb for you.
